| Software Development and the Digital Agency / Creative Agency |
|
Gone are the early days when a website was just an online version of a company's brochure. Now web design companies (or the "creative agency" or "digital agency" as they call themselves now) can include a wide range of services from corporate image / brand management to logo design to websites which are largely complex pieces of software engineering rather than a piece of graphic design. Any creative agency that wants to provide web sites must either get into software engineering, outsource or partner with a software engineering provider. Various technologies allow the separation of graphic designer and programmer in a project. For example, with PHP, templating technologies such as Smarty are popular and for C# / ASP.NET, Web services may well be used. Technologies such as Flash and now Flex and Silverlight are causing the lines between graphic designer and programmer to blur further, causing some to be pushed outside of their comfort zone and others to revel in the new opportunities and ways of doing things. - 03 May 2010 Paul Rigby works for Awgar Stone Ltd and has been providing programming services for digital agencies as well as other sectors for over 10 years. |
